Seek Understanding

From everyone and everything…BUT GOD!
Proverbs 3: 5-6 says “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Please note, this type of trust is reserved for the Lord and only the Lord. In deciding to trust or not trust anyone or anything that God puts on your path, first seek understanding. As a coach, I’m trained to ask powerful questions that provide deep insight about who is sitting in front of me. Professionally, this skill has allowed me to decide on reachable goals and benchmarks and the actions necessary to achieve them. Personally, it has allowed me to feel confident and comfortable in relationships. I’ve noticed that broadly relationships lack depth. That just doesn’t work for me and I appreciate the people who seek to understand me and for me to understand them.
But as for me and my God...I trust Him. I often come to God with my "powerful questions" and God be like..."babygirl, chill. I got this. You are powerful and I love that for you. But I am the most powerful." And in these moments I am encouraged to stay out of grown folks business and do what my father asked me to do.
That can be hard though! My spiritual father and my earthly father would likely agree that staying out of grown folks business is not a strength of mine. I want to know who, what, where, when, and most importantly...WHY?!? And I'm grateful that when I asked these questions as a child my parents and grandparents would take the time to explain things to me. Unfortunately, that's not how faith works. BUT...recently I had a little talk with God and we came to an agreement.
It all started at a yoga class that I hated. I’m slowly accepting the reality that I am not a yoga girlie. My gifted brain just doesn’t work in a way that allows me to enjoy yoga. But that particular night, God made that hour I’ll never get back worth it. The instructor told us to pay attention to numbers. She said it’s never a coincidence when combinations of numbers that have some meaning to you are presented. So, I gave it a try. I’ll be honest…it took a lot of evidence for me to believe this and I know God was sicka me lol. One day it finally clicked that God had used that yoga instructor to send me a message that would change my life.
God and I made an agreement to communicate through numbers that have meaning for me. If I’m unsure I’m headed in the right direction or need help making a decision, I look for these numbers and things become clear. If I don’t see them, I take a moment to be still and listen to God. And if all I hear is silence, I do my best and trust that all things will work together for my good.
38...my line number...on D.S. Redemption...of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
This was the first number God used to guide my path and today is 3/8. Not only is it all over my house on my Delta paraphernalia but I catch the 38th minute of most hours. So often, it's at a moment that I'm in need of some clarity or comfort. Shortly after God and I agreed on 38 as a sign, many people in my life celebrated their 38th birthday or wedding anniversary. As I prepared to turn 35, I continued to receive the message that 35 will be great but 38 will be better than I can imagine. Having the confidence that in just 3 short years I'll be living a life I could never have dreamed of is powerful. The ultimate glo up is within my reach!
I encourage you to trust in the Lord with all your heart and have faith that He will make your path clear. I know that God is with me and intervening on my behalf always and in all ways.
